Life continues in a more beautiful way

By Bruce Enott, Montana Tavern Association President
Twenty-five years ago I received a DUI, and my anniversary date was Feb. 4.
I made a personal choice then to abstain and haven't regretted it. No bar went bankrupt, no one had to lay off a shift or two at the Olympia Brewing Company, and the world didn't come to an end.
Life continued, and in a more beautiful way because I know what I’m doing all the time and don’t have memory lapses. I abused alcohol, but now I have a second chance in life.
Alcoholism is definitely an illness. But I do not advocate abstinence. Please, all of us need to make a living. I advocate compassion, socializing, and having fun.
Bartenders are not your mothers. Be responsible for your own actions. Don't wait for your bartender to cut you off. If you have too much to drink, request a ride home. Enjoy yourself. Life is too short to hurt yourself or anyone else.
