'Lewie' Perino passed Aug. 22
Lewis "Lew" Manford Perino died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, following a brief illness in the Veterans Hospital in Denver.
Lewie, as he was also known, was the long-time operator of the Cribbage Board Bar in Jefferson City. His brother, John, owns the Pair-A-Dice in Butte.
Lew was born in Butte Feb. 17, 1938, to Joseph and Mabel (Mikesell) Perino. They preceded him in death.
He attended local schools, then served his country in the Navy aboard the USS Princeton and was honorably discharged in 1959.
He briefly worked for the Louis S. Cohn Co. and Anaconda Co. before working with his father and brother at Perino Amusements.
Lew, with his partner and friend, Bill Meagor, owned and operated the Cribbage Board Bar in Jefferson City for 21 years, since 1988. Bill continues its operation today.
Lew married Roberta (Sumpter) in Butte Dec. 3, 1977. Lew was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.
He was very involved with his family and family was his life. His various travels for work and pleasure took him to many Montana areas and he had many dear friends in every area. He will surely be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Lew was a member of the United Commercial Travelers and Anaconda Country Club. He enjoyed bowling on numerous leagues, golfing, camping, four-wheeling, snowmobiling and loved to dance.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta of Butte; their children and spouses, Shonna Perino of Butte, Michael Perino and Anne Gerry of Missoula, Lewis Perino and Cindy Hoff of Butte, Richard and Debbie Steyh of Bigfork, Bobbie and Kim Broden of Libby, Rachel and Pat Doherty of Butte, Ron and Michele Steyh of Deer Lodge and Matthew and Kasta Perino of Clinton, La.; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his brother and his best friend, John Perino and sister-in-law, Judy Younce of Butte; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Doug McGee of Butte; brother-in-law, Robert Sumpter and Gina Mattix of Butte; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Debbie and Steve Merzlak of Augusta, Ga.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Cremation has taken place in Colorado. Memorial services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Borge officiating.
Memorials in memory of Lewis may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
