Republican Candidate for Montana Attorney General
As a sixth generation Montanan who grew up my family ranch in southwestern Montana, I remain actively involved in ranch operations. My wife of 12 years, Pollann, and I would love nothing better than to hand the ranch down to our young sons, Robert, Michael and John.
A few years after graduating from Butte Central High School, I joined the United States Air Force and while enlisted I became a computer expert supporting NORAD and Space Command and earned an Associates Degree in Computer Systems. After receiving my Honorable Discharge, I attended and graduated from Montana State University with a Bachelors degree in physics. I went on to receive my law degree from the University of Montana. Following graduation from law school, I began my legal career at Poore, Roth and Robinson in Butte, one of the oldest law firms in the state.
Now, as a senior partner, I find my greatest passion to be constitutional law. I have argued more civil cases before the Montana Supreme Court than any other Attorney General candidate, Republican or Democrat, and am admitted to present cases before the United States Supreme Court.
Montanans, like all Americans, want safety and security. Upholding constitutional rights, liberties and freedoms is imperative as is the rigorous defense and application of the laws passed by our elected representatives. If privileged to serve as Attorney General, I will be the guardian of these rights and responsibilities, including property and Second Amendment rights.
Montanans look to the office of Attorney General to see that justice is done, and their rights are protected. I will maintain the successful Meth-Free Montana education campaign began by Attorney General McGrath and will continue working and partnering with the Montana Meth Project, the Montana Office of Public Instruction and others on projects that are beginning to produce positive results for Montana.
I am very aware that the office of Attorney General is important to all business. Small businesses, especially, can feel the pinch of higher costs from overburdening regulation. I believe that, in each and every instance, Montana s interpretation of the law must be clear and concise and regulations need to be predictable and fair.
As a small business owner myself, I understand that Montana s tavern and gaming businesses are owned by individuals and families throughout Montana. You work hard and put in long hours. You employee over 20,000 Montanans, abide by many laws and regulations and contribute substantially to our state s tax base.
I have always believed that small business succeeds when our elected lawmakers establish fair tax rates and offer predictability and stability in law and regulation.
My door will always be open to your concerns.
