Automation spurs new gaming tax forms

As the Gambling Control Division (GCD) begins conversion to the new GenTax database, tax reporting forms will change, says Gene Huntington, GCD administrator.
"Rather than beginning with a blank tax reporting form, operators will be provided with a form that lists all of their video gambling machines and the associated identification numbers," Huntington told the Tavern Times. "The machine owner will only need to record the meter readings on the form and return the form, along with the tax payment to the Division.
"As operators begin using approved accounting systems and report electronically," he continued, "the Division will continue to provide pre-filled forms only to those owners who choose to continue to report their taxes manually rather than converting to an automated system or utilizing the web-site to report taxes.
"These changes will not apply to route operators who already generate tax reports from their accounting systems," Huntington said. "However, those who generate their own tax reports need to be sure to update their accounting systems to use new route and location operator numbers MDR numbers and GOA numbers and video gambling machine ID numbers.
"Beginning in the third quarter some route operators and individual operators will begin to use approved accounting systems, and report tax data electronically," he said. "However, those who are not yet reporting through approved accounting systems will continue to receive the new forms from the GCD prior to the tax deadline each quarter. Utilizing these forms should make tax reporting easier for owners and reduce the potential for reporting errors."
