McGrath reappoints three to Gaming Council

Pub Date: 4/1/2008
According to a March 18 news release, Atty. Gen. Mike McGrath has reappointed three members to three-year terms on the Gaming Advisory Council.

McGrath said John Tooke of Miles City, Steve Morris of Helena and Nick Murnion of Jordan will continue to serve on the GAC until January 2011.

Tooke, of Miles City, will represent the gaming industry. He is the owner of the Golden Spur in Miles City and also works as a certified public accountant in his own accounting firm.  He was first appointed to the GAC in 1999.

Morris, of Helena, will also represent the gaming industry. He is a member of the board of directors of the Montana Tavern Association and a past president of the organization, and is a member of the Gaming Industry Association.  Morris was also originally appointed to the GAC in 1999.  He is the co-owner of two Helena licensed businesses.

Murnion has been Garfield County Attorney for 29 years.  He also serves on the board of directors of the Three Rivers Telephone Company.  In 1998 Murnion received the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award from the John F. Kennedy Library.

The Gaming Advisory Council was created in 1989 to study all aspects of gambling in Montana, to review and comment on administrative rules proposed by the Department of Justice s Gambling Control Division, and to make recommendations to the department and the legislature on gambling-related matters.

Under state law, the council is made up of nine members: one each from the Senate and the House of Represen-tatives, one public member, two local government representatives, one Native American representative and three gaming industry representatives. Legislative leaders select the legislative members while the attorney general appoints the remaining members.
