President White said Anderson was chosen from a slate of eight candidates interviewed in July, who were in turn chosen from 30 applications. Anderson is the former 14-year executive director of the Montana School Boards Association, but most recently served an eight-year tenure as superintendent of the Fort Benton school system.
White said Anderson's experience in managing a large nonprofit corporation and knowledge of membership benefits programs were the chief reasons Anderson was hired.
In addition, Anderson served as a legislator from Flathead County for eight years, so knows the workings of that body and state government, White said, adding the selection committee felt Anderson would work well in tandem with long-time MTA Government Affairs Counsel Mark Staples as well as the general membership.
Anderson has several degrees and has lived and worked in the Flathead, Missoula, Polson, Somers, Bozeman, Billings, Winifred, Fort Benton and Helena.
He is a current member of Morning Star Lodge No. 5 A.F. & A.M., Miriam Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, and Scottish Rite in Helena and is a member of the Kiwanis, Lions, Community Betterment Association and Tax Increment Financing District, all in Fort Benton. Anderson is also a flying enthusiast and is a licensed pilot.
