T was not long ago that Montana Tavern Association Convention Mondays were a down day for everyone in attendance other than golfers partaking in the annual tournament.
However that is no longer true thanks to farsighted convention committees dedicated to providing a fun time for all. The 2007 convention to be held in Kalispell Monday-Thursday, Sept. 10-13, is a prime example with activities slated for all.
Naturally, heading the list is the MTA/Coors 7th Annual Marie Durkee Memorial Golf Tournament to be held at the beautiful Buffalo Hills Country Club in Kalispell. As in past years the tournament will be a four-person scramble, blind draw.
Buses will load at 11 a.m. from the Outlaw Inn and cost to participate is $125. Your registration fee covers green fees, carts, lunch, bloody Marys, screwdrivers, Coors beer, prizes and the 19th Hole Party. The shotgun start is scheduled for noon. Buses will depart the course at 5:30 for the 19th Hole Party at Del's Bar just a little to the south in Somers.
Those straight shooters who wish to test their skills will no doubt wish to participate in the sporting clay shoot to be held in Polson. Buses for this event will load at the Outlaw at 9 a.m. and the $50 fee includes lunch and soft drinks. Return transportation will be available following the shoot.
For the ladies, a shop til your drop champagne shopping spree has been arranged with buses leaving the Outlaw around 10 a.m. Shoppers can peruse a select group of local retailers who support the industry and then it s on to Bigfork, the Beverly Hills of the West, to explore the many unique shops and galleries. When all is done, it s on to Del s Bar and the 19th Hole Party.
Del s Bar in beautiful downtown Somers will be the host location for the 19th Hole Party. Owner Bob Lincoln has been tuning his skills with the recent Cajun Street Dance and his MacAttack Fishing Derby so he assures all he s now ready for the big one.
Scheduled from 6-8:30 p.m., the evening's fare will feature many local specialties including whitefish, steak, Caesar salad, coleslaw, specialty potatoes, grilled sweet onions and dessert made from Flathead cherries and huckleberries. Cost of the dinner for those who did not golf is $20.
At 8:30 p.m. buses will be loading to return revelers to the Outlaw Inn and the first session of the annual poker tournament slated for 9 p.m.
All in all, Monday has all the makings of a busy, great, fun day.
