No progress on zoning issue
Pub Date: 5/1/2008
Also at the November 2 meeting, the GAC formed a committee to study issues surrounding local zoning authority when it comes to gambling businesses.
It is clear local governments have zoning power relating to the location of licensed gaming businesses, but increasingly, and questionably, local authorities have attempted to use zoning powers to regulate the kind and amount of gaming that may occur in a licensed premise.
Council members Steve Morris, Pam Kennedy and Nick Murnion constituted the committee and Morris told the council there was no consensus on where specifically local zoning powers were limited. Thus, he said, the committee had no recommendations for council action on the issue.
